Gear change question

08 F 450 that had a 488 changed to a 373. Truck has been working great and driven about 2000 miles since then change. Hauling my 5th wheel for the first time I notice a binding noise coming from the back when turning sharp corners only. to me it could be the second axle on the trailer skidding around the turn but I've never noticed this before. My truck is a 2x4, any thoughts?

Thanks

When you put 3.,73 gears in..is the rear differential a limited slip or an open diff?

I think its your Ls rear axle making the noise.. When I went to 4:10 ratio I noticed it more also. How is your milage with the 3.73 ? I thought about going to that ratio also. I just wanted to lower my RPMs so I did the 4.10.

I had the same thing done on mine but they did something wrong to it as my rear ABS light is on all the time they told me the sensor is wrong and didn't know what to do to fix it.

After you make the change your abs light will stay on because of the position of the sensor, it no longer lines up with the gear inside your rear end.

How can one fix that? My ford dealer found a place that they say can fix it for $1500 but that is way to much!

Most of us drive with the light on.The sensor is gear driven and one guy made a sproket then mounted it in front of the drive shaft then made a bracket to hold the sensor. He was asked if there was any interest in making reto kits but I don't believe he responded.

Ok well does anyone have any trouble with shifting when pulling up steep grades? I had a hell of a time almost two yrs ago pulling my 5th wheel on I 80 to Reno.

Was the cost ($$) of the gear change worth it in fuel savings? anyone? Does it pay for itself?

I have same unit but 4x4 and wonder if change would be worth the cost. Understand I would have to change both front and rear gear Would like lower RPM at 60 to 65 mph. Of course empty MPG of 16 to 19 WBN!

Does it pay for it self ... I would say Yes it increased my milage about 1-2 mpg on the Freeway depending on the speed I drive. Now I can run around 75 at the same rpm as before I had 4.88 went to 4.10, if I run 65 I am at a lower rpm. I also think you need to consider that the rpm drop is much better on the motor as far as wear and tear. This is actualy my second F450 both 08's and I have regeard both of them. I would say go for it just on the reduction of wear on the motor and trans by reducing the rpm and the milage gain is a plus in my mind. Just my .02

Cost of change

Sounds good...I should have stated the RPM reduction at 60 to 65...of course it will reduce the RPM at all speeds if you change the ratio from 4.88 to 4.10 or 3's.
When I reread the post it sounded like I knew nothing!!! My error.
So now to the positive statement of 2 changes and both on 08 was impressive. What was the cost about? Was either a 4x4?
Thanks for the reply.
