I recently purchased a new 12v ignition switch from LMC (complete locks set and ignition switch with keys) I can't seem to get the new switch to mount. The little tabs in the whole (circle) don't fit the new switch. it's been so long, I can't remember how the old one mounted. I did order the retainer and the bezel but the tabs are preventing the switch for going in. It worked until I installed the cylinder lock, now it will not fit. Any suggestions would be great.
Key faces up flat side towards ground. Did you buy the adapter? The 12volt switch is usually for 56 and newer so it doesn't fit right. I had to get an adapter for mine to fit if not you can turn the key once or twice and it falls out.
when you say adapter, are you talking about the retainer that goes onto the switch between the spring and the dash? What I have is the switch, spring, retainer, dash, then the bezel. The retainer twists onto the switch and pushes back against the spring tension.
I didn't have a retainer with mine so there was a 1/2-3/4" gap between the spring and the back of the dash when I tried to mount it. The adapter is keyed for the 55 dash.
Also when installing the switch you have to push it through the hole for the bezel to attach to the switch and turn 90 degrees to lock.
I just went through this myself last night. The adapter pushes up against the spring, and allows the switch to protrude through the dash, just enough to get the bezel on. The spring pressure then holds the switch in place by sandwiching the dash between the bezel and the adapter. I had a problem with the 'tabs' as well. I wound up filing them off, and installing a small 'o' ring between the adapter and the dash, making for a nice snug fit when the bezel is installed.

Im not sure how an O ring helps. Assume it just creates friction. My switch is so stiff the key will likely just spin the retainer. Tabs on my retainer are shaved off too. Any ideas what I could do?
