EGT's with Torque!

Finally, you can get EGT's with the Torque app!

I had to reinstall Torque on my new phone and EGT1 was in the predefined set of PID's for Ford. Launch Torque, the go to Settings, Manage extra PIDs/Sensors, Menu, Add perdifined set, select "Ford (Incl PowerStroke)". I believe it's getting data from EGT11 that is between the turbo and the DOC.

I included a graph that shows the truck running empty at 50-55 MPH, ambient air temp. ~50°F and the EGT's are around 430°F, at 60-65 they are 480-500°F. If one of guys/gals with the Edge Insight/H&S/other tuner would be kind enough to confirm those numbers are correct.

This was on a 2 lane highway following a couple of old rock haulers, then I passed 'em.

Was there a recent update? I could never get it to work in the past.

You may need uninstall/reinstall the app. I went from a Droid 2 to the Samsung Galaxy S3 a few months ago. It's been working ever since I got the new phone.

The ID for EGT1 is (hex) 78
I don't know what the equation is but I will find out.

If you could post a sceenshot of the PID it should show the formula. I don't even see it in the custom PIDs I loaded for powerstroke.

EGT reading that far downstream of the turbo aren't really telling you anything. I guess it's better than nothing, but pre-turbo is what you want.

Mine cruising at 65-70 runs 550-650° most of the time. Obviously higher climbing hills and lower when going downhill for longer periods of time.

Yeah, I don't see it either. But it's in the PID list in Torque Scan. I'll make a custom PID tomorrow when I can play with the equation and I'll post a screen shot.

Actually I just check and it works in my rig as well. However, I see that Trans Temperature is off about 15 degrees from the reading on the info center.

So I'm guessing EGT is a good indication of a Regen.

The EGT1 post turbo temperature is usually between 400 and 500 during normal driving. Yes active regen is easily noticed by the extreme temp change even at this sensor pre-DOC.

I haven't heard any substantiated number for the difference between EGT1 and the post turbo temp. I always figured 250 to 300 degrees, but with the inboard exhaust and shorter runs to the turbo, I don't think we are losing as much temp across the turbo as we did in previous generation Powerstrokes. On a recent trip with my 5th wheel toyhauler, I watched the EGT1 hover just over 900 degrees for more than 1800 miles with it reaching well over 1100 at times. I would like to see some proof, but my best guess is what we are seeing post turbo is probably 150-200 degrees lower than what the pre-turbo temps are. No matter what the actual difference is, this motor is operating on the ragged edge with heavy loads with stock tuning. I wouldn't want to do any heavy towing with aftermarket tuning of any kind!

Yep, thats is about what my Edge show for normal temps running empty.
Thats why you don't see much passive regen when running empty. You need to hit that 572° or higher to be in Passive Regen

Seems the coolant temp and transmission temp are the same value. Need to dig into the PID settings and see why.
