You fix the old one and yes it can be fixed. I did 2 already and they work perfect. The ribbon just needs to be repaired. Look up youtube ford , clock spring repair. Its not hard to do if you can use a solder iron.
thank you, i'll tear into it this week and let you know how it goes. i've got some of the dash pieces removed doing a stereo upgrade. i had the premium stereo in the van with the equilizer. do you know if there's a piece that goes in that spot if i want to remove the equilizer ?

I think you have to replace that trim too get the tray, I don't remember if that tray is separate from it. maybe someone with it can look at there's and post on it.
are you saying there's a tray that goes where the equalizer is ? your thinking the whole trim piece that covers the radio, vents, cig lighter and ash tray is different ?

Yes there's a tray that goes there when they don't have the premium sound system.
There's a little vevet-lined box that fits into the hole where the equlalizer goes. I think it needs a couple of clips behind it to screw into. And there may be some side-mounted fasteners for the EQ that you will have to remove.
well i bought the cubby on ebay for 14.00 and it fit perfectly where the equalizer went. got a new cd player and 6x9's put in and it sounds great. i had to leave the factories in the dash, couldn't find new ones to fit, unhappy about that. i'll be tearing into the steering column tomorrow to fix the clockspring. i'll let you all know how that goes. thanks for all the great advice.
ok, i,ve got the clockspring removed. not really sure how to take all the ribbon out to fix it. the part # is F2UA-14A664-DE. if it can be crossed to one from another vehicle that i can purchase thats great or if someone can walk me through the repair that'll work also.
