Just had the tensioner and both belts replaced. $250 in parts. Total repair bill?... $1,180.
They claim the labour is a result of having to remove all 5 rads to get at the front of the block. I can see that, but still... jeez.
They sure did... and I hope they saw me leavin' because that will be the last they see of me!
Problem is, I'm not sure where else to go. I had a regular mechanic who had a two bay home shop, but he retired last fall. That has left me with the local Ford dealership and their "flat rate book for moron mechanics" fee structure. But I'm so afraid of letting some rubberhead who doesn't know the first thing about diesels touch my baby. Knowing damn little about diesels myself, I might as well be a woman customer.
Hope this took care of your issue at least.
I had a similar squeak at startup especially during cold weather. With a week left of the original 3 year warranty, the replaced the main belt/tensioner. That didn't do it. They then replaced the AC belt/tensioner. Still squeaking. Turns out is was the fan clutch. Haven't had a problem since. They replaced all without pulling the radiators....
