All, I'm picking up my new 12 F350 dually today and was wondering which bug deflector is better? I had a Chrome EGR on my 08 that worked quit well. The place that I bought it from only carries the stampede brand now. Anyone put one of these on and how good is it? I know that its not the best for bugs but it sure does protect the hood. Guess I'll need to update my profile and post new pics after today.
Good wax helps too and being a NEW truck your going to be washing it anyway
more than some old truck. One other place to guard from bugs is the A/C condenser
the screen system works well and you can hide that behind the grill so it does not
show. Happy hunting for the new truck. ANd to answer you question they are not that
hard to install if you don't mine a bit of work. If you have to drill get the Loctite stuff
that protects the exposed metal from the screws to keep the rust away. it's sort of
a cover for the edges that are now exposed and goes on the and in the hole.
I've been looking at the hood on the 12 and it doesn't seem to stick up as far for. The grille like on my old 08. So I might just not put one on. Just can't decide cause it really did save the hood on the 08.
I have the clear film on my Ford, and a bug deflector on the Tacoma. The clear film keeps the front lines of the truck cleaner looking without that deflector, but it is only good to a point. It is not hard enough and the bugs eventually mar it to the point where even tho it is clean, you can see the bug strikes in certain lighting.
I drive on a lot of gravel roads and I can tell you from the Tacoma that the deflector deflects more than bugs. It has kept a fair number of rocks away from the windshield as well.
I will likely add a deflector to the Ford before next bug season.
