My '99 F250 with 7.3 got totaled. I intend to buy it back and put another differential and bed on it. The body shop that checked the frame for me has a differential from an '05 F250 4wd. It has a flange for driveshaft mating where mine (2wd) has a yoke.
Would this be the same rear end other than the flange/yoke difference? Did the 4wd and 2wd have the same ratio? Or were various ratios available for each?
The differential is the same, up to 2012, when the speed sensor was changed. The brakes on the '05 will be larger, so you will not be able to use 16 inch wheels. The track may be a little different on the 05 and newer trucks, since wheel offset was also changed in 05.
Suppose the track width is compatible, do you suppose my rotors would fit the '05 axles? If I have to change wheels and tires that would be a deal breaker.
Also does any one know for sure if the yoke will bolt on where the flange is now?
And I need to figure what ratio I have and what his is.
I'll bet that by the time you're done, you'd be better off finding either a matching '05 front end and wheels and switching it all over, or sticking with the earlier axle/hubs/rims. A salvage '99-04 axle shouldn't be too hard to find.
i second the looking for the 99-04 axle and just bolting it in. Here in NJ you can find the rear axle in less then five minutes, but trying to find a D60 front out of the 02-04 truck now thats a little different....
