Valvespring Tech

Okay guys, got the cam and lifters ordered. Waiting for them to come in on Friday...not sure if I SHOULD have gotten the springs too..or if the springs are necessary for the comp 260h cam. the head only has 45,000 miles on it, so the springs are fairly fresh. Does anyone see a problem posing that the 260h may not get the "recommended" valvesprings? Has anyone used their stock valvesprings? just a few tidbits before deciding if i should go back to order them..I'll just have to scrounge a bit.

I would go with whatever the cam manufacturer suggests. That way you are covered if there is a problem. Good luck

Definitely check with the manufacturer. They're going to know better than anyone. Most people on here are going to make educated guesses at best, and that's not what you want for your engine. Comp is really good about getting back on stuff like that in my experience.

You could just get the kit you were going to get and add the valve springs on the side. Or, contact Comp and ask what the kit is. They'll know for sure.

When I was looking at kits, it was one that just came with the cam and lifters, or one that came with everything. I don't remember seeing one in between.

Well..I suppose I can get the cam and lifters..contact comp and see their specified springs and see if they have a "spring package" that comes with the locks and keepers and such. I decided just to keep the original timing gears..so that's 60$ ill save..or else I WOULD get the whole kit.

Alright..I got the FULL kit..now..it says that retainers are not included..but did you get new retainers AB? I'm officially in no mans land as nobody around me or helping me knows as much about the 300 as I do..and this whole cam swap and valvespring change is all new to me. I'm gonna get the fitting for the pressurized air for the valvesprings as I still don't wanna take off the head.

I didn't get retainers, but I did hear they're the same as the 302, so you can get some of those. (May want to double check to confirm that).
But, retainers are one of the few items in the valve train that aren't really a "wear" item, so most of the time you can just reuse your old ones.
