hello everyone i have a 390gt in a 69 f100 i have the Edelbrock 7105 intake with a 750 cfm holley and headers c6 with a shift kit and 3.25 rear it runs really well i was just thinking about a cam but i don't know what cam to go with 270h or the 280h by comp cams and what all will i have to change or would i be better off to just leave it alone.
Intended use would determine the correct cam. If it's not living up to your expectations as is, then maybe it's time to review a list of cams that fit the profile. Springs may need to be part of the package depending on what you decide to go with. If choosing a more aggressive cam it would be best to go with fresh springs even if the presents ones are within spec if they are high mileage springs.
With a heavy truck and not much rear gear I wouldn't go too big(first time I ever said "don't go big"). Likely in both you'll need to check your valve springs, as if they are stock originals they will likely be way under rated/worn out anyway.
You can pull the springs, have them checked and install new ones once you know your installed height(using a special mic and your retainers). Not real difficult, but not for everyone.
well i had it rebuilt about 3 years ago had the heads fixed with new springs they are double springs i have a little over $2000 in it and about 7000 miles on it since i should have had more aggressive cam put in it then i just don't know really what to do it does run really well the way it is.

Just remember that if you change the cam, you will need to purchase new lifters and springs to match the cam.
yeah it is a 390gt i got it out of a 69 torino and put it in this 69 ford f100 truck i have had 390's before and none of them had the power this one has and from what info i can get off some of the sites the 390 gt cam is a mild cam but they tell so many different things on the ford fe who knows what they are and when i had it rebuilt they also told me it was a 390 gt and around 330 horses i don't have any idea what kind of cam they put back i guess it's stock it will snap your head back it moves that truck around pretty good i just wanted to see if a cam would give it any more i am well pleased with the way it runs but you know a little more would be nice.
Well in my opinion..With that low of miles on it and your happy with the perfomance as of now... I wouldnt touch anything until your ready to make a couple of more steps..and then really see some differance!! JMO..
Since this is a C6 Auto, if you go a larger cam you may/will need to change the torque convert (stall rpm). So you need to look closely at whether they will give you a smooth idle. Most larger cams will not run smooth at the lower rpms's that a automatic requires with a stock converter. They can but requires someone who can really dial every thing in and is time consuming.
yes you are right about the converter the cam i found was a comp cam the 270h they say it is the biggest cam that i can go with and still keep my stock converter.
