I have been trying to track down a random dying issue for going on a couple of years now. I have replaced waay too many things to list. When I got out of the truck this morning with the key in ignition I noticed my door dinger was not going off. Upon wiggling the key it started dinging. I noticed every 4th or 5th time I get out the dinger does not sound off. I am thinking this may be the cause of my dying at random times?? I was getting a "key in ignition failure" code at one point but was told that it was not a big deal. Any input is greatly appreciated. For the record.....yes, I am one of those people that has about 10 pounds of keys dangling from my ignition.
I'm not sure the dinger working or not working is a full indicator of a fried ign. switch. On some vehicles, the key just grounds out a wire when the key is fullly inserted. \
I would drive down the road and jiggle the heck out of your ign. key (in every X, Y, and Z axis there is) and see if you can make it fail.

Tried that in the past and yesterday and nothing. Went to my buddy's shop last night for a brake job and flush (what a disaster) and it hiccupped on the way out of the bay. SES and WTS lights came on like I cycled the key. It literally sounded like I turned the key off and back on very quickly.
Maybe I should also mention that every 3rd or 4th time I go to start the truck the SES lights stays on and I do not get the WTS light. I thought it was my tuner, but I have re-cleaned and re-seated that thing at least a half dozen times. A key cycle or two will give me the WTS and the SES will go out like normal. I thought I fixed the stalling issue when I replaced the cable to the flip-switch. My old cable had an intermittent connection that would cause a stall if wiggled just right.
