I'm currently using a Valeo 12 inch smf. It has less than 1500 miles on it and it slips like crazy. I was thinking of going with a south bend clutch any thoughts.
What do you have done that is causing it to slip? But anyway, you will have to have the SMF tapped to use a 7.3 PSD clutch and you can get whatever you want. I believe NMB2 was running a 13" southbend twin disk ceramic good for 500-550bhp.

Hello, I have the same clutch mated up to my zf-5...Has been working great for over three years and I pull an 8800 lb. 5th wheel most of the time...This past month tho I thought it was going out so I pull the tranny...
What I found was the clutch disk still looked new...hardly worn at all...Even measured the thickness compared to new one. Turns out my throw-out bearing was wearing out...cuz I never greased it I supposed...so I installed a new pilot bearing, throw-out bearing and put it back together...no problems now...
Why yours is slipping...maybe got oil on it or something...What I'm saying is Valeo clutches are not usually know to slip unless something else caused excessive wear so soon like yours..
Just the normal stuff ats charger Dps custom injectors custom built ip. I don't want to go to a twin unless necessary to hard to slip them backing up the flat bed. The truck don't get driven much any more, but it weighs in at 9200lbs and I pull a trailer with a pulling tractor the weighs in at 14,500lbs. Last fall the back brakes were locked up and I did a 2nd gear launch with about 15lbs of boost trying to get them to break free and let's put it this way it looked like the truck was on fire from the clutch burning up. Now it will move the truck but as soon as I build no more than 2lbs of boost it will slip to the point there isn't much since in driving it.
Should have added this to that message. After I put it in whenever I was on the throttle hard you could smell it burning, and Shen I was getting on the interstate or pulling some of these hills around here with the tractor on you could smell it
Is your master and slave cylinder working properly? The clutch will slip if there's a problem there so its worth checking out. Did you replace the engines rear main when the clutch went in?
I've got a south bend stock rated unit and so far no issues even tugging 20K pound forage boxes.
I have the Valeo, and it has held everything up until I put my DB4 on...
As far as options go, I have 2 spare 6.9 flywheels, one of which I am going to mod for a 13" clutch of my choice... Havent decided the pressure plate/disk combo yet, but whatever it is, it will be sufficient for 500hp...
Its either do that, or spend 800 on a south bend.
And FWIW, NMB2's clutch is just a single disk... PSD pressure plate with cummins disk.
Adam slave and master are in good working order. Replaced the main when I did the clutch. I think I'm going to lean towards the south bend. Since the truck is put away for the winter I'm going to take some time and do some more research. I'm hoping the south bend will accept the valeo flywheel. I've seen some south bends take major abuse.
