My clutch went on an out of town trip so i had to replace it with a stock one, it had 81 000 km, but now the second clutch is starting to slip after this last trip, i dont notice it at all when the truck is unloaded but when im towing it started to slip, that clutch only has 43 000kms.
does this mean another replacement, if so what is a good recommendation for an aftermarket clutch?
is it possible the flywheel is warped? when i first replaced the clutch the flywheel was in good shape, im also very easy on my truck, could somthing else be wrong?
i had an 88 7.3 and the clutch lasted forever on it, over 220 000kms so i am wondering why my new truck is going through them so fast?
it a 2002 f-350 psd 7.3, it slips when going up hills when it had a big boat behind it, especially when shifting down to fourth.
its not when the clutch is being let out, its when a big load put on the drive train, such as going up hills with a boat loaded down with fuel and gear
im thinking of going for an aftermarket clutch that can handle these bigger loads, any suggestions? does the ram metallic or southbend stand up to heavy loads and increases in power? i do alot of heavy towing on not so perfect terrain
99SevenPoint3, are you happy with the southbend? i looked at the website and i think the Con Ofe 400hp would be perfect, do you know if these are really reliable? I dont want to keep putting money in on new clutches, i just want to get a good one that will last for a while.
i'm very happy with my 550 confe clutch it took a little while to break it in but its good now, i've pulled some pretty heavy loads already with it with 90hp hypermax and L5 on the six gun, this slipped my stock clutch the new one held up like a champ i paid 1000 for it came with flywheel, kevlar pilot bushing, cluth disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and new hardware
I had the clutch replaced on my 02 350 at 212,000 miles. It started slipping at higher RPM's. When they got the old clutch disc out it didn't look too bad. The problem turned out to be the throw out bearing. I've heard about a kevlar throw out bearing on this forum. I didn't put one in mine but I'd say whatever you go back with I'd look at beefing up the throw out. I was surprised they use a plastic bearing now.
I just got my truck back recently with the new Con o clutch from south bend ... as of right now its completely stock but im getting a chip so i went with the con o type but i havent put a heavy load or broken it in but as stated through southbends website its supposed to handel a heavier loads we will see ...sorry if i cant be of further help others will chime in to let u know of more info
wheni did a search the two big names that came up were the Luk clutchs or the south bend because they offer different usage type clutches again sorry about the double post..
My buddy got one for his Dodge and pulling a 5th wheel he loved it. Prior to that he had replaced 2 cluches and then gotten the South Bend clutch and loves it. Seems like alot on this board like the LUK cluthes also. I dont know about them. Just remember you get what you pay for.
