331 or 351 build?

Here's my predicament. I built a 302 from block up (everything in my sig) and when i went to fire it up it wasn't sounding right..metal on metal and knocking...generally hellish sounds.

here's my question. there's almost undoubtedly block damage and/or lower end damage. should i find a 351 with pistons/crank and transfer my hi-po parts over from my old block, OR should i bore out the 302 i have and stroke it to a 331? the price is about the same, the work is about the same...im just wondering what yields the most efficient street performance.

The 351 will be a better truck engine, as a 331 generally has to really spin (rpm wise) to make decent torque.

You could always go to 393 with the 351w as well, cheap stroker with amazing power for the price.

351 Deff. There are some high power 302s out there. But I think you'd be happier with a 351 slightly beefed up.

If this was a mustang I would go for the 331. But for pushing a big truck around go for the 351w or stroke a 351 to a 408?
