I've got a 4x4, and I was thinking of changin the old worn out 351 to a 302 hi-perf. stroker. is this a good idea or should I jsut stick with the old 351, take it out and rebuild it to performance specks?
Just to give you an idea of how cheap it could or would be you can get a cast scat crank for $250-$300 use your stock rods and then all you need are 302 pistons stock type (only designed to go into a normal stroke 302) for anywhere from $150+ depends on where from and what you get. You probably knew this but I thought I would throw it out there in case you didn't. In reality you could make comparable if not more hp with the 351 with stock stroke not to say you couldn't make gobs of hp with the stroker 302 then again you already have 351 cubic inches. Later
Is the 351 a modified, cleveland or windsor? If it's going into a 4x4 then you don't really care about horsepower, only torque. If it's tree climbing torque you're after, and the 351 is a Windsor, then invest in a good machine shop and a 393 or 408 stroker kit.
