I have installed and wired cab lights on my f250 but each time I flip the switch it blows the fuse. Also after the first blown fuse I can't put in a new fuse without blowing it right away. I have used # 5,10,20, and 30 fuses. Why does this keep happening?
STOP!!! WTF? C'mon now.. The purpose of a fuse is to protect the circuit in case of an overload like a short to ground.
Troubleshoot the problem! - check all connections for loose/bare wires and double-check that the system is indeed wired correctly.
I'm gonna take a wild azz guess and say that one of the cab lights contacts is touching the sheetmetal or the mounting screws. Are you sure no wires are pinched ??
Never over fuse or bypass a fuse if it keeps blowing ,sure sign of a short . If the wiring get's hot enough the truck can catch on fire. Same way a lot of house fires start, from being over fused.
So would putting a rubber washer on the bolt stop this?
I have no idea. And neither do you, yet. All you have been doing is guessing. Figure out what the actual issue is first. This is what you were told to do earlier.
Try this, take all of the wires loose from all of the lights ,accept one and see if you can get it to work. If it does ,then wire the next one the same way, don't do any thing different. Then turn them on again,if they both work the go on to the next one ,testing as you go. If it shorts out ,then that's the one that's wrong, fix it. Then go on doing all the same wiring on all and they should work. Don't let your friends wire for you unless they know what they are doing.
