1987 Bronco II. Damn fuse keeps blowing and I can't find the short. My tail lights, speedometer, and tach, lights are out. Put a new fuse in and it popped right away. I know I recently replaced (two weeks ago) both headlights, so I don't know if that could have anything to do with it. The ground on my stereo looks good so I'm kinda at a loss. Any advice?
A loose ground won't blow a fuse - it's a short from power to ground, or too much load on the circuit. Is this just dash lights that go out? Check the trailer connector dangling across the rear bumper.
Good idea on the trailer connector, but if that don't do it use an ohmmeter to check the wires going to the tailights for a short to ground. You want to be sure there is no power applied when you do this, but since your fuse is blown there should be none.
I once had water get in the taillight socket and caused it to corrode and short out. Inspect the sockets to see if they look okay or if you see any bare wires that might be showing.
If you don't have access to an ohmeter then unclip both sockets and pull them out so they are not touching the metal, then see if the fuse blows.
