my 89 7.3 is leakin from the heads and valve covers. I have it all pulled from the truck now to begin changin them out and was wondering if there was anything i should change for prevenetive maintenance glow plugs, injectors or anythings and whats the best brand to go with.
Also my previous radiator had oil in and from what i had heard its either from bad head gaskets or blow o rings in the oil cooler was wondering if there is anything else i could be from
glow plugs and relays isn't really anything ya need to replace......well.just make sure there are no off brand/non motorcraft plugs swelled up and stuck!
otherwise, those can all be done easy as pie in the truck anyway.its not like we're limited on space and emissions crap in our way like on PSD's.
if i had my engine out, mine wouldn't go back in without the torque cam.

Well i have it out still only have the time to do work on it every now and again but this next week i have a good four days to work on it. it does have a turbo and i checked the prices on headbolts and summit said they have an arp kit for 550 which im not to sure i want to spend that since studs are more from what i have heard? Definetly going to reseal the oil cooler. Is there anything tricky to doing that and the head gaskets? if so tips would be appreciated little stressed about all this since its my first diesel but i am really quick to learn and have pretty good knowledge for being new to workin on one. Will definetly get some pictures up once its done everyone on here has been a huge help to me.
You can get studs a lot cheaper than from summit if you have a 7.3, just do some reading.
Cams are a good upgrade for drivablility, and if you are already going to have the engine half torn down, might as well add one of those too, its not too big of a job. There are a few to choose from nowdays...
Anyone happen to know the seal size for the oil cooler? Got a standard and metric kit not sure if the size is in there or not havent gotten to pulling it off yet
Advanced auto has a lower end oil seal kit comes with oil pan gaskets front seal rear seal cooler seals and timing and water pump, The oil cooler is a PITA to do if you have some BIG wood clamps or some kinda big clamps to press it back together other wise youll have to take it to a shop and have them press it back together for ya.
And you need a puller to get the spacer ring off the back seal.
Got the whole thing torn apart finally and just finishing up on cleaning it before i put it all back together had a question though bought some new glowplugs motorcraft zd9's and they have different tips than the old ones where can i pick up the new electrical needed?
