My 1986 f250 gets no air to the face vents, floor and defrost work great but no face vents, I found hose running through the firewall that connects to the two hoses that go to the passenger side face vents but it isn't connected to anything in the engine bay, I'm also missing the "coffee can" i've seen and also read about which i think creates the vavuum for the face vents as well as face/floor mix. Am i correct in saying that i need a coffee can for the face vents to switch over? Also my cold/heat switch wont go all the way to heat, it will go all the way to the cold side but wont go but half way to hot without stopping? Any advice on either?
Also if i'm missing the coffee can some how and need it i assume the hose coming through the firewall wil connect to the bottom and another hose will connect to the top somewhere, Any diagrams on that? or instructions? i don't see and other loose hoses lying about that would go to that as well.
Some trucks have what looks like a large tin can mounted to the fender under the hood. Others like mine, use about a 4" plastic ball. This is a vacuum storage container.
If you have a small vacuum line hanging freely under the hood that is likely your problem... I would check salvage yards for the plastic ball as the tin can likes to rust through..
Mines an 86 f250, you say look for the plastic ball? i saw a tin can that wasn't rusted through last time i went to the junk yard, if it's stillt here i'll pick that up just to see, they wont charge but 5 bucks i bet
Otahyoni did you build your flatbed? My bed is rusted all to hell and unsavable so i'm thinking about a flatbed because a bed that will fit and is in good shape is hard to come by.
I think the tin can came with cruise, but i'm not sure on that...
Yes, I've built and modified the bed. With a few reservations, i think i like this one better than a steel bed. It's lighter, and can take a heck of a beating, but it's not as rigid which is a problem where my crane is...
thats sweet, how'd you mount it over top the humps in the frame???
I'll probably just build a flat bed as a project and mount it on, cheaper and i'll know i did it rather than buying a new bed, plus, no more to paint (;
I used scrap wood as spacer blocks and bolted the 4x4 posts right through the original bed bolt holes that are in the top of the frame. Then i laid the 2x6 decking down and used screws to hold it. I dont remember what order they went in, but i used 2x4s, 1x4s, and 5/4" decking at different spots and it ended up very close to level.
I probably should be sealing the wood more than i am, but i havent noticed any problems from not... I did soak it with thompsons water seal right after i built it, but havent done anything since but use it.
I would also check on the passenger side firewall there's a little goldish colored vacuum attachment, the vacuum lines on mine were cut which caused only my defrost and side vents to work
Hey otahyoni what is your plastic ball attached to? what hoses go where? do you have a hose where mine is located, lower passenger side firewall going into the cab? is it connected to anything?
similar topic -my floor hot vent doesnt work really. I put it to floor and ir mainly blows out windshield defrost, if i move selector to flr/def its still same thing.
How do i keep my feet warm?!
so that hose isn't a drain hose for the ac condensation? ok. where is your plastic ball mounted in the engine bay if you know off the top of your head?
