I have been, looking for some solid information regarding frame differences between a 79 F-150 2WD supercab longbed and a 79 F- 350 4x4 longbed other than the overall length is there any differences in width or shape? And if any one knows the length difference that would be handy info as well
The supercab is 22" longer than a regular cab. reg cab longbed wheelbase is 133" and a supercab longbed is 155". As far as differences the frams are the same width at the cab and be mount locations however the reg cab frame kicks up at a different location. If you put a sc cab on a rc frame youll need atleast a 2" bodylift to make it work. Im currently doing this myself and its somewhat of a pain.
Hey thanks for the tips I wouldn't have thought about a body lift until I already had the cab up there... Well I feel reassured about this build now. looking forward to having it up and running before Thanksgiving
Yea I was thinking about doin the same thing instead of the body lift.... Wonder if a guy could split the difference by raising the front mounts off the frame some and lower the rear some?
I think it's the cross members on the body of the crew cab that hit the frame & possibly it's crossmembers.
Look again at the pics redneck posted - specifically the 2nd one. Click on it & look at full size for a better view. He cut one channel or crossmember on the body at the front of his cut & the body is resting on the frame in the rear of his cut. Doesn't look like you could lower the mounts ant more without cutting more.
I did cut the crossmember on the cab. The frame crossmember in the pic sticks up about an inch inside the cab and the frame rail behind that about half inch. The rear where it looks like the cab is resting on the frame is just that lip of sheetmetal. I notched it and everything worked fine,
Ok yea I see it now.... I'm guessing now that even if you did raise the front some you would defiantly still have to cut out of the floor pan and training the front probably wouldn't give you much gain in the rear anyway
if you raise or lower the front in relation to the back, it won't line up with the front clip or bed anymore. even a small difference is pretty noticeable on the body lines.
