Have seen code of P 1378 in Insight gauge, not CEL yet, but was in July this year, Mechanic says pending trouble code not to worry about till CEL comes on. Had FICM replaced three years ago and top half replaced in July 2012. Where should I go from here.?
I dont think I would put off Fixing it either your truck seams to be having alot of FICM Problems
your Relay is Labeled diffrent than what I am Posting Below but works the same Pull it out and note the 2 skinney terminals thats the control Circuit the Fat ones are the Power circuit
If you have a DVM you can rig up some test leads and test it use the car battery on the control circuit test with a DVM on the Power circuit
-a standard bosch-style relay will have 4 or 5 numbered leads (30, 85, 86, 87, and sometimes 87a). why they picked those numbers, I have no clue; but I can tell what they hook up to.
-30 = constant [positive (+)] power (usually wired directly to car battery)
-85 = coil ground (wired to the negative (-) battery terminal or any grounded metal panel in the car)
-86 = coil power (wired to the control source. could be a switch, or it could be the car's IGN or ACC circuit.)
-87 = switched [positive (+)] power output. (when the relay coil is powered, lead/pin 87 is connected to lead/pin 30)
-87a = [on 5 lead/pin relays only] this lead/pin is connected to lead/pin 30 when the coil is NOT powered.
here is the bottom view of a standard 4-lead Bosch-style automotive SPST relay
here is what happens inside the 4-lead/pin SPST relay. on the left, the coil is NOT powered. on the right, the coil IS powered. notice the switch changes positions when the coil is powered. when the coil is powered, pins 30 and 87 are connected. when the coil is NOT powered, then pin 30 is not connected to anything, therefore it is in the 'off' position.

On the Relay, where's its location and also approx cost of new one, as truck was at the dealers on Wed this week and Mech there said wait until CEL is on, won't trust report in Edge Gauge, but this is second time that the code has shown up in a month. Both batteries were replaced in Sept 2011, cause mech then had said low input to FICM if I remember right, different dealer then. I would like to get this issue fixed as I have an aftermarket plan on truck for repairs that is over at end of this month.
I have had this intermittent code as well. Running Edge Juice with Attitude. I have been looking into this the last couple of years. It is my belief that this is a bug with the Edge.
I get the Ficm Control Circuit Voltage: Low code intermittently. I dropped $230 on batteries and a couple of other items two and a half days ago. Cleared codes upon start up after the batteries were replaced. No FICM Code. Ran for an hour, No Code.
Yesterday, after starting, before leaving the driveway the code popped again.
I have checked voltage to and from my FICM and I have reflowed the FET's and cleaned up the connectors. I am confident my FICM is performing well and the voltage being supplied to it is good.
The only thing I have not checked is the Altenator to see what voltage it is supplying under load. But I don't believe that the altenator is going to have any effect unless it fails to no output. Additionally I don't think the altenator comes into play until the glow plugs shut off. But not real sure of that.
Just out of curiousity, are you seeing a P0528 "Electric Fan Clutch: No Signal"? This is another one of those ghosts...

YES, Dang! Thanks Mark. I uploaded the picture to my album here at FTE, if I correct the pic and upload again with the same name do you know if it will be corrected in the posts?
ON EDIT: It is fixed in this post. Uploading another version didn't replace the old one. The new pic got assigned a new picture ID# so no auto fix. Deleting the incorrect pic removed it from the other posts, sorry for any confusion
