I purchased aftermarket repo mirrors; installed mounting brackets to doors yesterday. The mirrors came with hinge pins, which were too thick as some have found before me. Had to grind pins down to make fit but now have brackets mounted to door hinges. I don't like the length of the mirror arms so will cut them to suit. Had visions of fabricating my own mounting brackets but needed side mirrors to drive around as rear vision is a challenge on the old trucks.
We had our first snow this week, so will be putting truck away for winter but trying to clean up some small projects before then. Next project is to fix power steering leak.
Actually, I'm praying for a long wet winter. We've had several years of drought down here and are about to shrivel up and blow away in the wind. We could sure use a wet winter (several of them)
I've been trying to decide what to do about mirrors. You're right, you can't hardly see behind these trucks, especially if you have something in the bed blocking the rear window.
I purchased those sorry made and sorry looking mirrors that would not fit without some alterations and also stuck out to far to suit me. We made our own brackets that went throught the hinge and put a cap nut on the bottom. We also brought the mirrirs in to an acceptable lenght. I like them much better and think they are far superior to those ***** made mirrors.
I got a stock looking mirror for the passenger side to match the existing drivers mirror . Pin was a little snug but magic formula for all things rusty and stuck prevailed .
Winter sucks here but cold and sunshine beats grey and wet .
