Ok, well my buddy and i are taking my transmission off my truck (E40D 4x4). we were taking the 4 nuts off the flywheel, and 3 came off good, but the 4th was bad, it started stripping, now we cant get the socket back on because the metal burrs are sticking out, yes i tried to file the sides but the bell housing sticks out and inch and a half or so so i can't get a good angle and didn't do much, i tried locking pliers, again, bad angle so i good only grab the top of the bolt, in doing so stripped a bit more, stopped that, any i deas on how to get that bolt off, without doing to much damage to the parts and surrounding parts?
thanks
can't get the trans to slide back some more? remember the converter slides out from the trans.
edit,
was just searching some of your past threads.i hope you properly diagnosed your converter slip.it may not be anything a replacement trans will fix,if it's simply an electrical issue with the trucks wiring harness.the replacement trans/converter will act the same way if it's the case.a many E40D have been pulled needlessly.
Sounds like you're working with 12 point sockets....... or cheap "china" crap? they'll make more work for ya at just about every turn if you use them kinda tools.
Sounds like its not to late though, get it off with a socket? As stated pound a socket on it, make sure its a 6 point socket, tightest fitting one just feel it lining up to the nut SAE or Metric either one. Once the nuts off you can knock the nut out of the socket easy enough.
Or if trashing TC then do as Brad suggests if you have a smoke wrench handy, blow the nut/stud off and be done with it.
If wish to save the TC? heating the nut some with that torch first, that will make it easier to remove.
Had that problem on a chevy motor. Just ground the head off and the remaining stud screwed right out so I dont think a extractor would be required. Just figure out a way to grind the head off.
Ford uses a stud welded to the TC with a nut on the outside of the flex plate, GM uses a bolt that screws through the flex plate into the TC.. So grinding the nut off with out destroying the threads on the stud is going to take some mighty fancy grinding..
not quite as easy as grinding the head off of a bolt!!!!
