Iv been working on my trans off and on for a week to find out the torqeconverter dosnt seem to fit it goes in the trans just fine but I took it off and tryed to match it up w the fly wheel it just dont fit the people that rebuilt the trans says it has to the gave me another converter but it seems to be the exact same thing the nose or piolet on the front is to fat to slide all the way in so the bolts can be put on all the way around as it is now i can only get 2 of them the other 2 barely rech the flywheel i cant get them thruogh enough to start the nuts any ideas??? i dont have much more time weather and jack rental are running out
YOu may have the wrong size. If the bolt holes don't match up to your flywheel/flexplate, then someone goofed.
I spent a hole day trying to install a tranny, with the wrong size bolt pattern on the TC to flexplate. Dealer said he gave me the right thing. Went somewhere else and sure enough first dealer was a dufus. I wish there were more competent parts guys, sure would save me time.
Should also mention that ther are sometimes several different combinations of torque converter flywheel/flexplate available for each model truck.
So you may need to be very specific when getting the parts. You may need to have all the following info... tranny model, truck model, year, engine, 2WD vs 4WD, light duty versus heavy duty(usually a issue in the F250 series), air conditioning, sporty version version standard.
My old problem was that I was using a high stall convert for a hemi and the flex palte was for a lo performance grocery getter. The tranny was the same for all models, but the tc and flexplate differed with application.
I assume you rotated the TC and flywheel to see if for some odd reason the bolt holes were "keyed" or "clocked" to be installed in only one way. I have not seen this but who knows.
Ya i double checked to be sure that the converter was all the way in. the parts guy thing I agree with you there some of them are real jack@#$%. I have spent more time on wild goose chases than working on my truck. I drove about 250 miles saterday huntingparts that were suposed to be in stock to find out someone sent me to the wrong store. and they said they even called to be sure
I think I have found the right converter it has a very short nose so there shouldnt be any inerferance from the crankshaft. but any advise is good at this time. or even the right part#.
my truck 1971, ranger xlt, 2wd, 1/2 ton,360fe, C6. If this would help me find the right part
