Dex-Cool is definitely NOT on your list of coolants for a 7.3L!
Get out your owner's manual and read the Ford spec that your coolant should meet.
Read the coolant jug to see if it meets that spec.

Someday I'm going to change to ELC, but for now, Polaris Labs tells me my coolant is just fine in there.

Granted, I do take responsibility for that one.
To the OP, personally I never had any problems with ELC, just got tired of shelling out the per gallon cost of ~$25/gal when I was dumping it out so frequently.

Before '02, manuals suggested traditional "green" coolants with SCA's.
But I am deducing based on the evidence, and that's not gonna be 100% a sure thing.

Just cause a coolant is red doesn't mean it is dex cool. Cummins was the last to jump on the elc band wagon due to seal issues on some of their engines.
