My brake lights stopped working a few days ago and just took a look at it today. I have running lights, hazard lights, signal lights, everything! Just no brake lights and that includes the third brake light too. I checked all the fuses visually and used a multimeter as well. Showing power to the fuses. Pulled the tail lights off and checked the bulbs. Used the multimeter. I checked the trailer plug as well. Everything works except the brakes. Used a multimeter as well. No problems with my cruise control which I read usually stops working along with the brake lights. Im baffled. Next I guess is the brake pedal actuator but it responds and shuts off the cruise control. I even wiggled the hazard flashers as I heard this may show a short in the multifunctional switch. No flashing or change.
Kinda of a dumb question... but is the fuse popped? Mine wasn't when I bough the truck but I found out the hard way that they are their own fuse when I was swapping fuses around to try and get everything to the right amperage and put a bad fuse in.
I don't know which one it is for a 2001, but it should be a mini under the dash.
Edit: it should be listed as stop lamps, center high mount stop lamps in the fuse box, probably a 20 amp fuse. mine is @ position 13, but its a 99, and I don't have a '01 book handy.
Edit 2: The internet has failed me. It gave me the same manual that already have for a 99 when I searched 01. I don't get that at all.
Your right, its fuse 13 and it is good. Power on both sides of the fuse thanks to a multimeter. There is also two fuses under the hood in the other fuse box (1 and 5 i believe off the top of my head) that are used for the trailer brake lights (one for left, one for the right). They are good as well. I am still bafled about the cause.
