Looking at my owners manual today, it calls for a Motorcraft "Gold" coolant. Never used this stuff before. Used the green stuff forever, and familiar with the orange Dexcool (ugh). I don't mind buying the Motorcraft coolant, but in a pinch, are other coolants compatible with it?
(Thank heavens I'm not starting a 5W-20 oil thread
I wouldn't mix the stuff!...If going back to green or whatever color of your choosing, I would do a complete flush.....But recommend whatever the book says!! Here's something for ya...
Premium Gold Engine Coolant
- Yellow-colored, extended-life, ethylene glycol based engine coolant for use in gasoline and diesel engines
- Provides year-round antifreeze, antiboil and corrosion protection
- Only use where specified. Do not mix this product with systems originally equipped with any green-colored, conventional engine coolant such as Motorcraft® Premium Engine Coolant, meeting Ford Material Specification ESE-M97B44-A or any orange-colored,extended-life engine coolant such as Motorcraft® Specialty Orange Engine Coolant, meeting Ford Material Specification WSS-M97B44-D
we have used three or four different coolants,it's all what ford request for the test we run.we have the green ethylene, orange crap and very rarely the gold(or mountain dew looking stuff)we call g05 and there is also a gold colored coolant used in mazda's.i have only used the green in my 2000 ranger and 98 f-150 but always follow the owners manual whatever it calls for.
