As of right now regular old universal green. I will soon be switching to Rotella ELC. If you use regular green you have to mointor the SCA levels in the coolant. Check out this post, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...o-coolant.html
Running Fleet Charge w/ need release coolant filters on ours. Don't have to change the coolant very often - good for 125-150K as long as you change the coolant filter annually.

Reason: oops
I'm about to throw a wrench in this. A knowledgable guy who owns a 7.3, 6.0 an a 6.4 was using ELC until he found it was eating heater lines in his 6.4 and now won't touch the stuff.

Don't shoot the messenger.
Hence the reason we're running Fleet Charge w/ the need release SCA coolant filters - heard both good and bad about running ELC's in 7.3's..... Some folks have reported issues others have not. Guess I'm not the gambling type

Ruh-roh! I just changed to Chevron ELC and installed a bypass filter. Think I'll take a chunk of heater hose and put it in a jar of ELC and see what happens over time.

Well, after 5+ years and over 70k miles of using Delo ELC, I guess I'm glad I don't have 6.4L hoses.
Now yall got me thinking about changing since I dont know whats in mine. Looking at my local store here they have a prestone extended life I may try out. Didnt know these trucks were so picky about what you can and cant use.
One of my buddies that drive cummins made a statement to me one day about staying away from dex-cool (the red stuff) because supposedly a lot of problem have came from in on all makes and models cars and trucks. Anyone else here this?
Dex-Cool is very vehicle specific. You cannot use it in a Ford, only GM vehicles that call for it specifically. Even then, there was a class action lawsuit against GM due to Dex Cool related problems.

I changed mine when i built my engine to CAT pre mix good for a 1,000,000 miles. It is very pricey but i read lots of good stuff on it and no need to add anything...
