Remote TFI Conversion using '92+ Distributor (4.9)
1) Yes, I would have preferred mounting the remote TFI over on the inner fender like the factory did. That was my initial intent and I acquired the harness bits from the '93 donor truck to do so. But doing so would have meant opening up more of the harness loom and making more cuts into the harness; I wanted to limit that as much as possible. Doing it as I have was the best compromise.
2) The only part that was a bit of a head-scratcher was the GND connections. You've got three of them coming out of the closed-bowl distributor quick-connector that are all common (2, 3, & 7 in the diagram above). I connected them a little different than the diagram... I connected the bare GND wires that ties into the shielding wrap on both sides along with pin 3 out of the distributor (the 3-way splice done with the blue Posi-Twist). #7 from the distributor I spliced into the #6 TFI (IGN GND) circuit (all orange wires). This thread talks a lot about this exact issue and potential "ground loop" problems. I think in may be more theoretical than an actual problem.

3) I'm going to wrap everything up you see in the pics below for a cleaner install and to take any strain off individual wires - just wanted to get a couple pics for documentation purposes.
4) Color consistency of the wiring between the original '91 and '93 donor (distributor harness clip) made things a little easier and reaffirmed that my splices were correct.
That makes things closer to the conversion schematic in post #15 above, except I spliced #6 from the TFI directly to #7 on the distributor, as mentioned previously.
Of course I could have replaced the PIP in the original distributor and achieved the same result in the short-term, but I've been wanting to upgrade to the '92+ closed-bowl distributor w/ remote TFI for some time now. I'm glad I held out and did the upgrade.
I haven't done anything about my potential ground loop due to the double-grounding of the shield-wire. For now, I think I'll leave it alone.
Some of the buggies I made I did not even use that shield ground and they ran fine.
