Convert to remote mounted TFI???

Convert to remote mounted TFI???
Would it be possible to convert from a distributor mounted TFI module to a remote mounted TFI module without having to change out other things such as the computor, etc??
I have never tried this or looked into it much, but I have been wondering about it lately...
I was thinking that maybe I could do this by cutting the harness and soldering in more wire to make the harness long enough to place it elsewhere. That would cover the harness issue. And for the 3 connectors that go into the distrubutor I could maybe come up with 3 male connecors that are just like the 3 on the module, solder on wire to them and on the other end of the wire solder on female ends that will mate to the male ends on the module. one end of each of these 3 wires will go into the distributor and the other end goes onto the module once it is re-located.
Would it be as simple as that?

Have you not heard of all the issues with heat that these things have???
Thats is why the later models have a remote mouted TFI in a heatsink from the factory.
Soldering in the extensions is easy puting in heat shrink tubes is easy.
Why would it not work reliably??? My concern would be the 3 connectors on the distributor...
I doubt that I am the first one to think about this.
If this won't work (I doubt that it will, but hey...just a thought) then I will just have to carry a spare TFI + tools with in the glove box.

I'm pretty sure you can't just extend the wires and make it work. The remote mount TFI trucks have about 6 wires from the distributor....check out the diagrams comparing the distributor mount and remote mount TFI module wiring on fordfuelinjection.com. I've got 165000 miles on my 87 with a distributor mount TFI and I've never had any problems with it......knock on wood.
