I had this posted in the general pre 97 forum, but was told it would be better over here. My 95 f150 stalls in reverse. It goes fine forward and idles fine in reverse but if I give it quite a bit of gas it starts stalling. We've put a new mlps and that didn't fix it. Then they thought it was the convertor so I got the trans rebuilt and still no change. I'm about to pull my hair out over this deal. I don't even have enough power to back up a trailer or back up a hill. Any ideas??
Thanks, Daniel
If the rebuilder was good and knew what they were doing they would measure the pump and replace it if needed. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't.
You can determine if the pump is good by putting a pressure gauge on it. You can google the specs on the pressures. You need to check it in park, reverse, and drive, both at idle and at stall. Stall is your left foot holding the brake as hard as you can, and your right foot planted on the floor, but for NO MORE THAN 5 SECONDS! Any more can destroy the torque converter.
When I took the pickup out for a drive this evening, everything started working halfway right. The speedometer started off bouncing then worked right for quite awhile and it barely stalled when I floored it in reverse. The only thing thats different is that its been cold and raining all day. Any thoughts?

I haven't had a chance to get the pressures checked yet, but why would it have all of a sudden started working today? Including the speedometer? The only thing that was still acting up was the abs light was still on.
