Rpm at idle

I did a sreach and came up with a few answers so I am going to start a new thread.

I have a 77f150 2wd with a rebuilt 300 in it with a c4 rebuilt tranny. I did do a few mods, I installed a offy intake and headmen headers and put in a new 4 barrel ed carb. I also installed dual exhaust with 40 series flow masters. I want to know what rpm should I be at while idling? I just installed a tach yesterday and I'm at 1100 at idle. I know that's Pretty high, before I go play with my carb I wanna know what it should be at.

Thanks for the help.

Around 650 rpm would be a good starting point.

Note that his truck is automatic, so if @ 650 in gear, it will be higher in neutral or park.

Ah, good point. I've never set the idle on an auto before.

1000's a little high. 650 is the stock setting for a manual.

I'd start with that. Back the idle adjust screw out a little bit and see if the RPMs drop. If they don't, it might be an indication of a different issue. Sticking choke, or even a vacuum leak.
