I'm Having issues with my wifes Freestar. Power door locks fail to operate on a regular basis. The passenger side window as well. With the locks, the drivers door switch works fine, but not the passenger side. Sometimes the drivers switch will only actuate the drivers door and none of the others. Then sometimes everything works fine. With the window, the passenger side switch will sometimes work and sometimes not work. I'm looking for any helpful information before I tear into the door panels. All responses are greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately the Freestar has almost nothing in common with an Aerostar other than its a Ford so its might have similarities in the way wiring is made. The Freestar is more like the Windstar, which is similar to a Taurus. I would check the connectors, maybe clean them with some electrical parts cleaner. Even though they are supposed to be shielded from exposure to water, connectors inside the door are more likely to have corrosion than many other connectors.
Or it could be fraying of the wires just from the regular opening and closing of the doors in everyday use. It's very irritating, as these little breaks are somewhere in those bundles of wires going between the door and that little hole in the jam through the accordion hose, and very hard to track down.
