Unhappy Spark Plug wire routing - what's wrong

Hi All

Coming right back from upgrading Spark Plug Wires and Spark Plugs. I was so shure i did it right but Engine heavy vibrates, misfires now and sounds like "kaputt". That is what i did:

- Renew Spark Plug Wires with a Set of new AC Delcos (org. Equip. before)
- Changing Spark Plugs with a Set of Autolite Double Platinum (2. Set after 30tsnd. miles)
- Renew Oxy-Sensors, both Upstream and Downstream

The Graphic from Alldata.com which i took as Reference:

Engine shudders, vibrates and terrible backfires in this Configuration. Note, Numbers on Coil does not match with the Numbers on Spark Plugs.. is there anything wrong with this suggested Assignment?

Another Grafic of the Coil:

And one from the 6 Cyl. 3.0L, Numbers of Cylinder:

I'm really confused!
I do highly appreciate any help from you regarding wich Number on Coil goes to what Cylinder. Please refer to the two Graphics above to explain me how to do it right.

Many thanks!

PS: Two of the AC Delco Spark Plug Wires have a black Boot, all others have a grey Boot - is there any other technical Difference? I were using one black Wire for Cyl. 1. Why is there another black Boot?

top 2 diagrams are correct for 1997 3L V6
remember Ford uses the waste spark 3 coil system on these.
firing order of engine 1 - 4 - 2 - 5 - 3 - 6

http://rockledge.home.comcast.net/~r...y/DIS_EDIS.htm

opposing wires and plugs in series with 1 coil.

first series
coil 1 fires #1 on compress and #5 on exhaust stroke
coil 2 fires 4 on c and 3 on e
coil 3 fires 2 on c and 6 on e

then next revolution
c1 fires #5 on comp. and #1 on exh.
etc.

triple check your ignition wiring correct coil pack hole and correct plug
the ign coil pack is MARKED CORRECTLY FOR PLUG WIRE NUMBERS.

pairs 1 & 5
4 & 3
2 & 6

Okay, rewiring done. I choose the "drawing by numbers" Option, as in the following Graphic: Numbers on Coil is Number of Cylinder.. that is how it was connected before removal.

Truck runs great and smooth thru the Gears like it did never before. Slight Acceleration dropouts after Coldstart are History from now on. To replace those original equipment Spark-plug Wires was definetively overdue. Last but not Least, the sticky baked Downstream Sensor as well.
Just awesome how she's going forward

@the_Ford_Driver, thanks for publishing the Image! It's not the Configuration i choose now. Still don't know why, but there must be different Ways to Assign. Anyone?

Have a nice Weekend!
