I see. I'm running 325 right now and that's stock. Figured it wouldn't be a big deal. I'm lookin at both..just wondering about springs or if the kit is worth 325 bux
Of course, tire size plays a part in that gearing equation as well.
True.
$325 seems a bit high, but it's been a while since I priced cams, springs, lifters and such. Could that be Canadian $? IMO, it's always good/best to get the kit.

Well..it comes with the cam lifters springs steel timing gears and the hardware for the springs. I
If a ran the 268 would I need to get screw in studs for the rockers? I wouldn't think so..I've also looked into an isky setup. Do they have any with a good idle? I know they make a lot of split style shafts

I thought I answered that in my PM, but maybe not. The Isky 256 idles smooth. The 262 has a slight lope at idle. Isky, on their site, describes the 256 as having a 'smooth' idle, the 262 as having 'a good' idle.
I agree with Harte3: Aftermarket cams put more stress on a v.train than the oem train. Screw-in studs are a precaution against the push-in studs popping out. Imagine your engine making a sound like machine gun fire. With the added stress, if the stud does pop out, the insides of the engine may look like the gun fire was directed at it.
Unless you do pretty significant head work and bump up the compression ratio to ~9.5:1 that 268 cam will probably make less power than a 260 or 252. Or it might make a bit more peak power. But that will be more than offset by the loss of torque off idle. It's a lot more pleasant to drive a slightly undercammed truck around town than one that's overcammed.
Haha u did address it I posted this before I pmd u. How hard would it be to put in screw in studs? Or would I hafta take it to a shop?
Without the right tools to pull the studs and accurately drill out/tap the pedestals it's almost impossible to do at home. Figure about $120 for a shop to do the machine work and another $50 or so for the studs.
I hear ya. I don't really need a super radical cam..something for cruising and such. That's why I've been back and forth with the isky 262 and the comp setup. The isky is setup almost like the 260 but its lsa is different which causes it to have a better "note" at idle. Is almost be more tempted to go that route..cuz it wouldn't be as radical of a cam..and as I know..I shouldn't have to worry about the studs. Id like to eventually get the head worked on..deck shaved and p n p. It would almost seem less trouble to run the isky as for right now..I'm super indecisive when it comes to big money decisions and the truck. I like to look at every possible angle before I sink a lot of money into things...I know comp has the whole kit..I.e. the lifters springs seats and retainers along with cam and timing gears..does isky offer any packages? I've been to their site but I can't find a thing!
