Cam swap

In contemplating a cam swap, I am looking up other parts I may need to change out at the same time. I have 140,000 miles on the 351. What have others found wear on? Timing chain and gears, cam bearings? Looks like I'll need lots of new gaskets. Comments?

You definitely should change the timing set when swapping cams, and depending upon the cam new springs may be necessary. Your motor has a flat tappet cam so it requires new lifters as well.

I'm going with your suggested cam (no one has disagreed or come up with a better one). With it I believe I won't need the 1.7 rockers or new springs? I'll add the lifters to the list. What about the cam bearings?

Should be no need for cam bearings, these are typically not touched unless you're doing a complete overhaul.

That would be Comp Cams 35-255-5 or Crane 444232. are they pretty much the same cam? I have the Comp Cam on the list.

OH yes.. I remember now. No they are not the same cam and I like the Crane for the reasons mentioned in the other thread. You won't need new springs with either cam, and even if you add 1.7 rockers to the Crane later on.

Thanks Conanski. Your comments on the 2-11 cam upgrade post answers most of my other questions.
