351w cam

What would be a good all around cam for an 86 f150. I want a cam for a good daily driver, good low and midrange torque, and something I dont have to go with bigger springs or anytheing. I just want to replace cam and lifters

Well, the cam manufacturers will recommend replacing the valve springs. Go to www.compcams.com they have a computer controlled cam (hydraulic flat tappet camshaft) works with EFI speed density works with stock computer. The operating range is 1000 to 5200 rpm's. The camshaft part # is 35-255-5. The cam grind # is XE254H. The duration @ .050 is 210 Intake, 214 Exhaust. The valve lift w/1.6 rocker is .478 Intake, .485 Exhaust. The lobe separation is 114 degrees. I believe that this is the cam the first generation Lightning owners called the "Hot rod" cam.

If it were me, and I was investing money in a new cam, I would also invest in new valve springs. Just like anything else, they are subject to "wear", constantly being compressed all the time.

Comp Cams 1-800-999-0853 give them a call.

If you decide to get the "Hotrod" cam make sure to get it checked out befor you install it.There have been allot of problems with this cam failing recently. It does have awesome low/mid power though.getting matching valvesprings is deffinately a good idea.
