Hey CSIPSD,

Is the 38R a direct bolt on for the E99? If I have an exhaust brake will it still fit? Will there be power gains with 38R, stock injectors, and a tune?

38R is not a bolt on for an E99. If you have an E99, you would be money ahead to get an H2e kit...

Your exhaust brake will bolt to a 38R. It will not to an H2e (assuming it mounts to the factory turbo.).

I know where a 99.5 motor is and could probably get the intake reasonably. Do you think I'd be better off with the H2e or newer intake and 38R? I'm most interested in towing, not racing or smoking; in fact, I prefer not to smoke at all. Do you know who has the best priced H2e?

You would have to check around for an H2e kit. I would not get a hypermax kit simply because they use the factory doughnuts. Most of the others out there use bellows.

A standard H2e plus mount kit should run you about $2400 or so...

Your going to need much more then the intake to run a 38R on your E99...

Up pipes, Drivers manifold, turbo pedistal, intake manifolds, babys butt collector, Compressor Y pipe and the turbo itself...

38R for me also. It lowered exh. temps a little along with boost while cruising. Spool up is fast to. Best of all I did it my self, and I'm a carpenter, not a mechanic. I got it from Clay. I think the complete kit for your e99 is around 2500.00. I like mine, and recommend it like the rest here who commented on it. I tried the band aid fixes for the stock, but this thing breathes well.

This early 99 is really starting to annoy me. Guess I'll have to pony up some dough to get past it's limitations.

I'm thinking Irate for the T4 conversion, any negative on their setups?
