Yeah, new sensor... And it takes about 30-45 sec when cold and 15-30 after warm. It varies from time to time.
If it takes more than 5-6 seconds to engage reverse, it is not anywhere near normal. I have never driven a truck with an E4OD that took that long to engage in reverse. I think you might have bigger issues here. Does the ATF smell burnt at all?
No it's blood red. Even when I changed the old fluid it wasn't burnt or black in color.
Another issue is that it won't take off very quick.
I know it's not a 500hp gas burner but I've had others before and they were much more responsive. Now they had 3.73 gears instead of 3.55 like this one but still...
On a rainy day or on a gravel driveway it won't turn the tires over. TC issue? Or clutches?
Things I've been told are: weak pump, or a valve in the TC can cause the delay in the reverse engaging.
could be TQ is slipping like a **** when you try to take off. brake torque it and see what the revs do. if they just keep climbing without showing any signs of stopping then you have a dieing TQ.
Well it doesnt rev like a manual w a burnt clutch (goes to about 1500-1600 if you really push it) but I may have some power loss too so I'm going to adress that first then if still in the same shape...
But in the end I'm wanting to swap in a ZF5. So as long as it gets us to the river and around on sat night we are good till I can find a donor truck.
If your TC is not up to par, I can see that causing performance issues. Not sure about reverse but if the TC is not direct drive to the tranny pump, it could take a while to build line pressure to engage the reverse pack. Try holding the engine at 1500 RPM and shifting into reverse. If it engages noticeably quicker, it could be a TC problem. I'm not sure if the E4OD pump is directly driven but I tend to doubt it. I would look at my spare TC but it is buried in a pile of parts right now.
If I floor my truck from a dead stop, I will be pushed back in the seat and the tires will almost break traction and spin. If I had a lower stall speed TC, I think the tires would spin at least until 2nd gear. Even though I have a turbo, a N/A truck should still have some good off the line pull when you punch it. If the engine revs higher than it should given the speed, then TC or tranny are likely the cause. If it does not rev but kind of just chugs along, it could be an under-power issue.
Still haven't took a video but I drove it last weekend and paid close attention to it...
Parked on a rocky hill on a river bank and to take off it struggled a lot. Almost had to rock it to get the momentum. On the floor it only got about 12-1300 rpms.
Also shift and lock up is normal under 1/2 or less throttle but if you really get after it, when it does a HARD shift from 1-2 LU occurs just after. And then it quickly shifts through 2/3 into od.
When it's first started its very slow (20-30sec) to engage in reverse. When i pull it into reverse w my foot on yhe brake, after the ~25sec, the motor loads slightly but when I press the throttle it moves but only slightly. Like its slipping. Then after a few more secs (5-10) it engages fully. When warm it doesn't do this, just a little slow to engage. But when it does it goes immediately after, no slipping. Forward is similar when cold but no where near as dramatic (2-3sec), and once warm almost no delay.
I found a reman triple disc 6 stud converter for about $280... If that's the issue.
