Hey guys, I'm in the process of replacing all the door glass weatherstrips. I have removed everything and am now repairing, cleaning, painting, etc all the parts. My vent window handle has been broken off and so need to replace the handle. I have all the parts to repair it, and looking for advice on how you get the vent window glass out of the vent frame. Some time back I read someone's "how to" but can't find it again. Any advice, or links to the process?
The best advice is to take them to a local auto glass shop and have them remove them for you. They'll have the proper tools and experience to make easy work of it. If you're totally bent on doing it yourself, try warming the frame with a heat gun or other similar heat source to soften the bond and pull on the glass really hard (attempting to) separating the glass from the frame.
I agree with Wayne. My brother has been doing auto glass for about 25 years and he can do that stuff in his sleep. You could probably drop it off while you run some errands and pick it up an hour later.
Thanks. Being bone headed, I went ahead and clamped the glass to my workbench and gently tapped it off with a wooden block. Came off pretty easily with gentle persuasion from the wooden block. Now to sand, prime, paint, put it back in with the new lock post. Any good ideas about what to use to repaint the inside of the door?
