Well, I am finally starting to replace the cracked and bubbled door glass in the 59. What is the best way to remove the glass from the vent window frames? I have tried heating with a heat gun and trimming as much of the bedding compound out as possible with a razor knife with no result. Any ideas short of breaking it out?
There is a special tool that the Auto Glass Shops used and it clamps onto the glass and there is a twist screw handle that when turned pushes against the vent window frame and it pulls the glass away from the frame.
If you haven't already broke the glass check with an Auto Glass shop if you know some one there they may even lend it to you.
These tools don't get much use today as most vehicles don't have Vent windows.
Well, finally got to it and got it out. Thanks for the tips.
Acetone and Gumout softened things up, but evaporated too fast. Ended up using PB Blaster. That softened things up and the glass pulled out easily. The bedding looked more like butyl tape than bedding tape that I have used.

You need to post this on the Cool tricks & tips thread. I have dreaded the thought of replacing that glass, and plan on keeping this tip close at hand. Thank you for posting.
