I have all the window frames out and the vent window frames need to be cleaned up and painted. Obviously, the vent glass is glued in with tape, etc. What is the best way to remove this glass without damaging the frame? My first thought was a liberal dousing with WD-40 and let it loosen up. These are glued in much better than the ones in my 74 were.
I used a flexible blade utility knife (like those at $ Store) to cut the rubber molding/tape alone the sides of the glass and down into the bottom of the frame. You can then pull out the majority of the tape/molding after shedding which in turn will free the glass from the frame.
A friend of mine is doing a partial restoration on a '37 Pontiac. He called a glass professional with over 35 years experiance. He used a utility knife along the glass to cut the glue/tape. He also shoved a screwdriver in the exposed ends of the stainless to pry it apart a little...obviously not hard enough to hurt the stainless. About 10 minutes per window and they were out.
I handled mine while on the truck so I could get good leverage on them. Sort of did what fordman mentioned with the addition of some heat.. Passenger came out in minutes, driver side loosened up after about 25-30 minutes of jerking around. I used a square scraper type razor blade to push down along the glass.
