Drag link ??

I noticed today while using the grease gun on the front end that the drag link ball stud has a lot of play. Has about 1/2 " of vertical play in it. Can I just replace the drag link ball stud or do I have to buy the entire drag link assy. Tie rods seem ok. 93 F250 4wd. Thanks

When looking at the TRE that has play, is there a collar right beside it with two bolts through it? If so, then yes you can replace just the TRE itself. If not, then you will have to replace the link as the end is built in.

On my 96 the drag link is separate from the tie rod ends, yeah. But the stud that goes into the pitman arm does NOT come off the drag link. Mine is worn/squeakin too, parts store says is $12x.xx for a new one so I'll be replacing that soon.

I damaged mine tryin to get it to come loose from the pitman arm so I could pull the gearbox. Never did get it to come out... if I have to I'll just pull the pitman arm with draglink attached and replace both of them.

Yeah, I've never seen one move that much. It sounds like your describing the drag link to pitman arm ball stud. Is the nut tight on there and the cotter pin installed? AFAIK, you can't replace the ball stud itself.

I replaced all my linkage recently and it's not too bad of a job. Different guys have different favorite methods of separating the joints. Many like to use a BFH. I like a puller and going to the hammer only if needed, but I like things slow and methodical. If you use a puller, get a good one. I broke a couple lesser ones on the drag link joints.

Good luck!

Chris
