Just nabbed a timing meter

I just got a tech-time 3300 diesel tnming meter. If anyone has this meter or one similar, I have some questions:

1. The instructions say to set the offset. It seems to be determined by the probe point on the Vibration dampner. Which one is the one to use and what is the offset?

2. It has a trigger point switch that is supposed to be set to low or high as suggested by engine manufacturer. What should it be set at?

3. What is the proper timing for a 94 7.3 IDI Factory Turbo?

you use the taller,skinnier hole on the balancer for your pickup.
offset is 20 degree's.

if you'll be using a pulse clamp on your #1 injection line;
6.5 degrees BTDC to 10.5 BTDC

@2000 rpm.

6.5 -retarded side-upper rpm performance / 10.5 advanced side for off the line performance.

if you'll be removing a glow plug and screwing in a lumy adapter at #1 or #4;
7 degrees ATDC to 4 degrees ATDC depending on cetain rating and elevation.

@1400 rpm.

timing via this old school method,best left to those of us still foolish enough to use it lol is as:
7 -retarded side-upper rpm performance / 4 advance side of things for off the line performance.

ideally,you'll set somewhere close and go for a drive and or tow.-however you mainly use the truck and set it within specs using method of choice, adjusting to get the "sweet spot" where the truck just seems to "let go" or where the truck seems as if it requires little effort on the fuel pedal to maintain speed.-that's your hot spot.set it there for your most popular driving speed (this is where the truck with feel real nice and smooth,and fuel economy will peak) and or compromise just that tad bit (while remaining within specs) to get more upper nuts or lower nuts if needed.
hopefully your unlike me,and are running the turbo ip.the n/a ip requires a compromise i can't decide on.
it's time for proper upgrade.

if you pay someone to have it set,and don't own the meter,then you simply pick the middle and run it.since you bought the meter,have fun and really fine tune it for your driving style.just keep it between the "ditches" on your meter so to speak.

I will be installing a 5069 pump for the turbo. My primary concern is mileage since I live in a rurla area so I have to drive a good distance to get anywhere. What is the best timing for good gas mileage while mainataining the ability to pull my 5th Wheel from time to time (9800 GVW)?
