Is the gauge a bit off ?
If it is jumping all over the place or mid way through a tank it go
to full. Then it may be time to have the sender checked. They are spendy
buggers. Or it could just be a leaking seal at the pickup to tube in the tank
and that is not a hard fix. You just don't want to run out of fuel very often
it will kill injectors. You can some times see a bad sender with a high level
scan tool that is a bit more than the ones they have at Autozone. What you
looking for is sender errors. I am running with a bad sender right now. What
I do is go by miles driven and I know what my MPG should be most times.
The only time I get a bit off is when I am running empty on the freeway for
long trips and I get better a better MPG.

Running out of fuel (even low fuel pressure) can be hard on injectors, and they are expensive if you have to replace them.
