97 with electrical problems, driver side engine not running more inside
its a 97 with 170k. the driver side engine bank is not running, i replaced the uvc, idm the driver module is from a 2000 model its the black one. and number 8 injector solenoid. the code scanner said no 8 injector voltage problem, the engine runs fine with the number 8 injector unplugged.
Did you check the pins in the valve cover gasket, and the plug to the gasket to see if the #8 was burned? The IDM will shut one bank off to protect itself if there is a problem.
Ohm the #8 injector solenoid through the wiring on the VC. You're looking for right around 3.8 ohms. If you don't get anything through the VC, then ohm the injector by itself. That will tell you if you have a bad injector solenoid or if it is a wiring issue.
And yes, the IDM will shut down a whole bank of cylinders if it senses a bad short on one injector.
first off the idm failed which shut down the driver bank of the truck.
i started out changing the valve cover gasket and the electronics.
it still had the number 8 cyl jacked up.
so today i took off the engine harness after getting 100.0 through the injector harness on number 8 cyl, the wire harness was ok, i got down to the valve cover plugs on the inside of the head, the new valve cover conection harness had the number 8 injector wire (pink/yellow) going to the glow plug, and the glow plug wire goin to the injector.
So needless to say the assembled the uvc incorrectly.
the truck runs better then ever with the 2000 injector module now.
thanks everyone
Brandon

Yea,seems like when they are good, they are good.but when they are bad.they are terrible....kinda like the s10 clutch slave i installed today...bleeder in wrong place...pointing at the side of the trans rather than outside by the line like oe.
