The steering shaft on mine doesn't come off the box and has to be pulled all at once. The one in the picture doesn't look like it has the shaft on it. Then again, there is only one picture. Other than that, it looks right.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm going to have them email me some more pictures. I only really need the worm gear and cover to the bottom of the shaft. The previous owner (my grandfather) welded the box and cover to the frame. This messed up the bottom cover. I think The box can stay though.
I'm going to have them email me some more pictures. Why bother? It won't fit!

ebay steering gearbox has a tag on it that says "1948 Ford Woodie!"
This is a 1942/48 Ford Passenger Car/Station Wagon steering gear box ONLY. Seller says it's for a car. Was not used on any truck!
Worm gear only available with the steering shaft, not furnished separately.
Where is this cover you need located? At the bottom of the column or for the sector shaft?
Sources that may have these parts: Sacramento Vintage Ford / Early Ford Store in San Dimas CA / C & G Ford Parts in Escondido CA.
Early Ford (earlyfordstore.com) has a parts bin full of NOS shaft & worms. I'm only 15 miles away, so whiz on by every so often to "chew the fat."
Besides repro/NOS and used parts, Early Ford is a museum for everything Ford, located on the original "main drag" in San Dimas in the original 1916 Ford Dealership building.

Bill, I'm needing the lower cover with the rod that aligns the steering shaft. The original was no good. I didn't see that on item on earlyfordstore's site? I had planned on purchasing the worm gear from Mac's... On the above box.... Is the cover made the same as with my box? I knew it was for a woodie?
Okay... need more help. I got it all apart. I need to order a new worm gear. I don't see a serial number. Just a stamp of "82" and a a diamond with the number "6" in it. Which one do I need? HELP!!!

11A-3597 .. Tube & Plate (cover) Assy (steering gear oil retainer) / Located at the bottom of the steering column.
CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has ONE = 800-476-9653.
FoMoCo did not sell the worm by itself, was only sold as the steering shaft & worm assembly.
I don't have a Mac's catalog, what are the applications for the worm?
People that own these old rolling piles of misery SHOULD have the apropos Ford parts catalog. If you had it, you wouldn't be asking some of these questions.
See last line in post #5 for catalog reference / I have it (original-bound paper), haven't owned a 1940's Ford (1947: 3 woodies, Sportsman, Club Coupe) since LBJ was prez.
