Bought a new box for the Ex. Installed it,and the wheel just spins. Bled the lines, and still nothing. Did I get a junk box or did I miss something?
If the input shaft to the gear box rotates when the steering wheel rotates, and the sector shaft/pitman arm doesn't, then NASA would define that as a major malfunction - within the gear box.
On my third gear box now, first one broke(read above)second and third one are not aligned(I'm guessing).
I install the box, lines, and find center with the wheel. Try to install the pitman arm and it hits the frame or track bar bracket. Since you can only install the arm in 1/4 turn intervals,I'm lost.
Could this be the wrong box? I took of a 32 spline box and that's what I'm putting back on. The truck is sold,so I need this fixed.
What is going on? Confused and getting aggrivated. Please help!!!
YOUR INSTALLING THE WRONG BOX... NO 2001 truck came with a 32 spline pitman arm. The reason it is not allining is the flats are at 45*... On the 36 spline they are on 90*... Get the right box and your issues will go away.
Please listen to me, I told you this same thing in the other thread.
The reason I keep insisting that its the wrong box (and I am embarrassed to say this...) is I did the same thing on my wifes Excursion about 18 months ago... I picked up a box from NAPA and spend 5 hours trying to install it, back and forth and back and forth and back and forth... Took it back and got another 32 spline thinking this one was built wrong...
Even went so far as to get ANOTHER PITMAN arm thinking it may have been stripped or something like that.
Finally counted the splines on the old shaft... 9 highs...
picked up a 36 spline box and was done in 45 minutes.
The CORRECT box for a 99.5 to 2007 is a 36 spline box. The flats will be at 90* to the frame. The E99 box has 32 spline and the flats are at 45* to the frame.
ALL boxes come centered from the factory. NO adjustment of the box is needed or should be done.
Thanks again Joe. That's been my life for the last week,to the letter. Hopefully the 45 min install on the 36 also. But both pitman arms I have only have 8 small splines and the 4 large ones. So I will be looking for a 36 spline arm also.
