Ok so what does that part actually do? Ive been wondering if my a/c system is messed up because its fine and cold driving normal or the highway. But when I get in the city and the rpms get low and a bunch of stop and go, the a/c air starts warming up.

What he^^^^ said, your issue sounds more like the symptoms of an improper air gap, quick and easy to check and fix.
Thanks for that link. Im way off on the space in mine. Guess if I can get up early enough where its not already over 100 degrees ill have something to do.
