'97 F250 PSD, after it's up to normal operating temp, and I stop and let it idle, it idles up and down just a little. It's fluctuating at about 1 to 2 sec. intervals. When it's up, it's smooth. When it drops down, the truck rocks. Just changed the CPS, but it was doing it before. Did injector o-rings a couple months ago. What would cause this? Would the HPX crossover help this, or is it an IPR or oil issue?
I just changed the fuel pump, hoses and put all new o-rings in the fuel bowl and FPR. Had the FPR apart and cleaned it. That was around the same time I did the injector o-rings.
You have another PSD huh? You could just swap ICP's
Yeah, I have two, a 94.5 and another '97. That's where I got the CPS! LOL! It's a grey parts store one though. I need to get off my butt and get one from Ford!
When I changed my ICP it really improved my idle AND throttle response.... It was working and not leaking, but it looked original ( 400K) and I had an International one handy, that I paid 75 bucks for from a buddy who worked at the local dealer .......
Now plug it back in and see if it come back. If it doesn't try to wiggle the plug around to see if it does
I plugged it back up right after I unplugged it and the idle smoothed out. The up/down idle didn't come back and I didn't wiggle it or anything. I'll try it again tomorrow. I'll take the truck out and get it up to temp and see what it does.
The up and down idle issue came back when I plugged the ICP back up. I had it unplugged for 30 sec. or so. While it was unplugged the idle smoothed out. When I plugged it back up, the idle issue came right back. I took the ICP from another truck and put it in mine, no change. That one may be bad too, or is it something else?
SURGE AT IDLE
1. ICP circuit problem, disconnect the ICP sensor, if the surge goes away then you possibly have a bad ICP sensor.
2. AA code injectors installed into a engine that require AB code injectors will cause a surge (California emissions in 96 and 97 require AB injectors)
3. 94-97; if you have any transmission range sensor codes repair these first. A bad transmission range sensor can back
