Well I finally got some time to hook up AE to my F350. At first I had a butt load of codes so I cleared them out and they all went away.
Then I did a buzz test and those were all very loud.
Then I did the cylinder contribution test and got a P0284 cylinder #8 which I believe is the dead head #8 not getting enough fuel plus im running the gray CPS but I do have the FRX installed. I thought the FRX helped get rid of that?
Then I did the KOER switch check and every thing was fine but I did get a P0500 code. I cleared it out but it came back. I never did any data logging so that might go away when I do that. Any suggestion?
The truck runs great otherwise.
I want to thank Ken (woodnthings) for his webpage on how to work AE.
Here are my perdel results all with FRX, these are very similar to the ones in Ken's graph and he says these numbers are normal and nothing to worry about.
I see everyone saying they have all these codes, ect. This is my first ever Ford so I dont know and this may be a dumb question. But does Fords check engine light not come on for all these codes? Or do people not worry about it being on? Or does the light not come on and the computer just stores stuff?

Only certain codes will set the light. I believe the only codes that will set the light are emissions related codes. And it is not Ford specific, all vehicles made after 1996 are required to meet OBDII specs. So yes you can have codes without the light.

Oh im keeping that all to myself. Dont need anyone else adding to the future depression im going to be having when I see my bank account disappearing this winter. I was the same way with my motorcycles. Get online and buy parts (mostly when I was drinking), think about it the next morning and get depressed, then 2 weeks later acting like a little kid im sitting at the door waithing for UPS/FedEx to pull up.

So all in all it should be fun.
You should post ur list here because somethings are more important then others and you might have them in the wrong order of buying and installing.
How do you check the perdals, I looked for a CPS in the drop down box but couldn't find it
In the live data screen look for Cylinder # Change Rotational Velocity. Also remember that your engine oil temperature needs to be above 125 degrees for it to register.
Here is a video showing it. You can use the record button to data log and go back to graph your results.
Sorry. Long hours and a recent fuel fist fight - the blackened shower walls and my "rosey" knuckles say I'm losing. Anything unanswered yet? I'll hit and run on FTE this weekend.

In the old days, we'd get back from the bar the next morning and whine about the empty wallet. Now we can get the same financial roto-rootering in the safety and convenience of our homes. Ain't the Internet grand? One perk though, you'll grow to love yellow tape.
Seriously, I wouldn't mod until the truck is 100%. Some repairs do involve a mod, so research each fix before parting with the pesos. FTE members will save you a ton of money... if that is desirable to you. AE is a great early tool, it can be a huge help with finding issues with the truck and it can datalog the performance before/after a mod/repair. The AE manual has no information on the vehicle, just on the software. If you need to know what all that data means and how to target your tests, you would need a Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnostics (PC/ED) manual. It's what the Ford techs use.
